Pressure Reducing Valve Installation and Setting
This service serves properties suffering from water hammer, vibrating pipework, blown appliance hoses, or high street pressure exceeding 5 bar. We splice an adjustable dial-up pressure reducing valve into your incoming copper or plastic pipework. The downstream system is regulated to a balanced 3.0 to 3.5 bar, protecting unvented cylinders and appliances.

How We Carry Out Work
-
1
Static pressure measurement
A test gauge is coupled to a hose union or tap to record peak static pressure over a five-minute cycle.
-
2
Pipe preparation
A section of incoming pipework is cut out cleanly using rotary cutters, and ends are deburred.
-
3
Valve integration
The brass PRV assembly is installed in the correct flow direction with isolation valves either side.
-
4
Calibration under flow
We rotate the adjustment cap under dynamic flow conditions until downstream pressure reads precisely 3.0 bar.

Questions about this service
What is the recommended baseline pressure for domestic homes in Exeter?
Most domestic fittings and combination boilers perform optimally between 2.5 bar and 3.5 bar. Pressures above 5.0 bar accelerate washer fatigue.
Does a PRV reduce the volume of water I get at the tap?
It moderates extreme force, but a properly sized 22mm or 28mm unit delivers full designed flow volume for multiple simultaneous outlets.
Does the valve need periodic maintenance?
The internal stainless mesh strainer should be rinsed out every two to three years, which can be done without removing the main valve body.
